ABOUT NStJA

The National St John Ambulance Council (NStJA) is an integral part of Papua New Guinea’s Healthcare System, as a statutory authority operating PNG's main emergency ambulance service through the Department of Health.

THE POSITION

NStJA are looking for qualified Australian Registered Paramedics to join our program supporting the PNG-Australia Policing Partnership and AFP Appointees as part of a broader objective to strengthen emergency response systems.

TENURE

The positions on offer include:

  • Fixed-Term: postings of between 10 and 24 months – 1 position
  • Relief: postings of between 4 and 10 weeks – up to 3 positions

POSITION OVERVIEW

This role provides critical paramedic support for AFP PNG-APP Appointees stationed in Port Moresby and 3 regional centres across Papua New Guinea. You will be working on-call on a 24/7 basis, rotating between ambulance stations in Mt Hagen, Lae, Kokopo and Port Moresby.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary Duty: to provide dedicated paramedic support to PNG-APP Appointees as part of the NStJA’s role in the PNG-Australia Policing Partnership.
  • Team Support: Actively integrate with the local ambulance station by supporting the development of ambulance systems, and processes, while mentoring emergency ambulance counterparts.
  • Emergency Support: When appropriate, assist with emergency ambulance responses in the assigned station’s local area, ensuring the delivery of quality, safe, and appropriate care.

THE RIGHT APPLICANT

  • Are you an Australian or New Zealand citizen?
  • Are you an experienced Paramedic (ALS or ICP) with 3 year's recent service with a Council of Ambulance Authorities recognised service?
  • Do you have registration with the Paramedic Board of Australia - AHPRA?
  • Are you prepared to work in the regional towns of Mt Hagen, Lae or Kokopo for period of around 3 months.
  • Are you willing to maintain an ‘on-call’ capability for extended periods to support any emergency medical needs of a small group of Australian Police in PNG? *Do you hold a full driver's licence and experience operating a manual transmission 4WD?
