Clinical Practice Guidelines in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand: A reflection and call to action

With the rapid evolution of paramedicine and its continued professionalisation in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, it is opportune to revisit the current framework for the development of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to keep pace with the profession’s growth and the changing health landscape, and to better serve public health needs.

At present, the methodologies that inform paramedicine-specific guidelines are inconsistent, presenting challenges that must be addressed to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based paramedic care. The College commissioned the report “Clinical Practice Guidelines in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand: A Reflection and Call to Action” which is aimed at addressing those challenges by charting a path towards a more cohesive, collaborative and effective CPG framework.

Compiled by our Clinical Practice Guidelines Working Group, comprised of academics and experts, the report proposes a series of five actionable recommendations to bolster the development of guidelines for paramedic clinical practice.

The “Clinical Practice Guidelines in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand: A Reflection and Call to Action” is available here.
