Have your say: Scope of Practice Review round 3

The Australian Government announced the Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce (Scope of Practice Review) in the 2023-24 Federal Budget as part of its response to the Strengthening Medicare Reform Taskforce.

Since then, Professor Mark Cormack has led this intensive, independent review which considers current models of care against community needs. The review also explores the available evidence of the benefits of health practitioners working to full scope of practice while identifying barriers and opportunities for innovation.

The College has been an active particpant throughout the review process by providing a submission, nominating a representative to the Expert Review Committee, attending roadshow in-person events across Australia and paramedicine focus-group meetings.

In April, Issues Paper #2 was released, which marks the beginning of the third round of consultation, and we are inviting members to provide feedback on this paper via a survey.

Issues Paper #2 proposes eight policy reform options across three themes, these themes include:

• Workforce design, development and planning
• Legislation and regulation theme
• Funding and payment policy

The College is inviting members to provide feedback to Issues Paper #2 via this survey to help inform our submission. We will close this survey on Friday 17 May, 2024 in time to prepare our response. Comments provided may be used anonymously to support our work advocating for the paramedic profession.
