MEDIA RELEASE: Paramedicine recognised in major report: Australian Government releases Final Report MTR NHRAA 2020-2025
The Australian Government has released the Final Report of the Mid-Term Review of the National Health Reform Agreement Addendum 2020-2025 (Review) in which paramedics are recognised for their capabilities to support multidisciplinary teams and delivering care beyond traditional emergency settings.
John Bruning, CEO, said: “Paramedicine is an untapped healthcare workforce that could be utilised more broadly across the Australian health system to improve person-centred care, particularly in regional and remote areas, and we’re pleased to see that paramedics have been recognised in this report.”
The College strongly advocates with government and decision-makers to reform, and introduce, innovative healthcare models that utilise paramedics across health settings to help build a sustainable multidisciplinary health workforce that meets the diverse health needs of the Australian population.
The purpose of the Review was to build on the strengths of the National Health Reform Agreement, while proposing reforms and initiatives to enable the health system to address current and future challenges.
The College engaged with the Review process through consultation workshops, and a written submission via our membership with the National Rural Health Alliance.
