Monash University is seeking participants to take part in a research survey to assess the perception of preparedness by Australian paramedics in relation to breaking bad news to family and bystanders post unsuccessful CPR or already deceased patients.
If you're a paramedic working in Australia, you can complete a 15-minute online questionnaire involving multiple choice and free-text responses. An explanatory statement is available via the link below.
The outcomes of this research have the potential to change the future of three separate parties: Paramedic educators, paramedics, and receivers of bad news. Identified gaps in theory and scenario training will provide educators with information to inform a targeted syllabus of areas that require further attention and development. Paramedics will be provided assurance that they are performing to the best possible standards; reducing mental strain and stress fatigue. In addition, the receivers of the bad news will be provided the gold standard death notification to minimise any potential maleficence or acute emotional trauma.
